Biographical Information[edit]

1B DeJon Watson played five seasons in the minors then was a scout and executive.

He was selected in the 3rd round of the January 1985 amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals and played five seasons in their farm system, never rising above A ball. He split his first summer between the GCL Royals (11 for 36, 2 3B, 2 BB, 9 RBI in 10 G) and Eugene Emeralds (.281/.409/.369 in 52 G, 11 SB, 3 CS). Watson fell to .220/.301/.298 with the 1986 Fort Myers Royals. He was at .240/.397/.362 with 66 walks in 91 games for the 1987 Appleton Foxes, then spent his final two summers with the Baseball City Royals. Watson put up a .245/.378/.338 line in 1988 and .216/.307/.341 in 1989, now backing up Jeff Conine.

Watson began scouting with the Royals in 1991, and was also a scout for the Florida Marlins. He was the Cincinnati Reds scouting director in 1998-2001, then moved to pro scouting with the Reds in 2002-2003. He was the Cleveland Indians director of pro scouting in 2004-2006. Watson moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2007 and from 2008-2012 was the Assistant GM, Player Development. In 2014, he was hired by the Arizona Diamondbacks as Vice-President for baseball operations on the same day that Dave Stewart became the team's Senior Vice-President and General Manager.
