Biographical Information

J.J. D'Orazio has played in the minors and for the Italian national team.

Originally signed by the Toronto Blue Jays, he debuted in 2019, hitting .375/.444/.479 in 13 games for the DSL Blue Jays and .241/.265/.285 in 34 games for the GCL Blue Jays; he was their primary backstop at age 17. The 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He began 2021 with the FCL Blue Jays (.370/.400/.500 in 15 G) and Dunedin Blue Jays (.146/.200/.220 in 12 G). He was then traded with Yaifer Perdomo to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Joakim Soria. He was 2-for-21 with six walks for the ACL Diamondbacks to end the year.

In 2022, he produced at a .221/.323/.312 clip for the Visalia Rawhide. He split '23 between the Hillsboro Hops (.308/.380/.489 in 67 G) and Amarillo Sod Poodles (.217/.236/.297 in 37 G). With Italy for the 2023 European Championship, he primarily backed up Alberto Mineo behind the dish. His first game was versus Sweden, when he took over for Giulio Monello. He hit a sacrifice fly off Per Sjörs his first time up but Italy lost a 8-3 upset. His first hit was a double off Switzerland's Fabio Bundi. He finished the 2023 Euros 3-for-7 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, a double, 3 runs and a RBI. He was 0-for-5 for his hometown Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League, as a 4th-string catcher; Sandy León was the starter.

He began 2024 back with Amarillo, still 2 years younger than the average player in his league.
