Biographical Information

Frank Fazzini was an All-American slugger who peaked at A ball as a pro.

Fazzini hit .366/.462/.664 with 17 home runs and 65 runs in 69 games as a freshman. His sophomore year, he produced at a .326/.440/.669 clip with 29 dingers, 87 runs and 89 RBI in 84 games. As a junior, he hit .413/.477/.792 with 33 home runs, 109 runs and 118 RBI in 81 games. He was second in NCAA Division I in homers, behind Pete Incaviglia, and second in FSU history in homers behind Jeff Ledbetter (who had set the national record in 1982). He led Division I in runs scored with 109, 6 ahead of Doug Dascenzo. His 137 hits were a FSU record and second in NCAA Division I, 5 behind Tim Barker and 19 ahead of #3 Bien Figueroa. His 263 total bases were second in the nation, 25 behind Incaviglia but 56 ahead of #3 Gary Cooper. Only Incaviglia had more RBI in Division I. Frank did tie for 6th in the country in whiffs, with 55. The American Baseball Coaches Association picked him as an All-American outfielder alongside Cooper and Incaviglia and Baseball America picked him as the All-American DH.

Despite his college stardom, Fazzini fell to the 19th round of the 1985 amateur draft before the Milwaukee Brewers took him, one pick after Andy Stankiewicz. He split the summer between the Helena Gold Sox (.457/.559/.783, 21 RBI, 15 R in 12 G) and the Beloit Brewers (.234/.306/.331 in 44 G). After a slow start to 1986 with Beloit (.157/.276/.193, 0 HR in 29 G), Milwaukee cut him loose. He signed with the independent Salt Lake City Trappers and did very well in the lower Pioneer League, batting .309/.393/.532 with 10 home runs and 51 RBI in 61 games. He was 6th in the loop in slugging (between George Canale and Joe Kesselmark), 12th in OBP, 13th in average, tied for 5th in homers (with Mark Whiten) and 5th in RBI (51, between Greg Vaughn and Kesselmark). That earned him one a shot with the Los Angeles Dodgers chain for 1987. He hit .234/.352/.423 in 41 games for the Bakersfield Dodgers and .250/.368/.563 in 11 games for the Vero Beach Dodgers to end his career.

Fazzini had batted .266/.363/.439 in 198 minor league games, with 105 runs, 121 RBI, 33 doubles and 21 home runs. He had struck out in 202 of 647 at-bats and made 18 errors in the outfield, fielding .930 there.
