An All-American is a designation given to top collegiate baseball players in the United States as selected by the media. All-Americans in baseball were first awarded in 1947 by the American Baseball Coaches Association. From 1969 to 1973 two teams were selected, one from schools listed as major college and another for schools listed as college. In 1974, Divisions II and III were created, but only a Division-II All-American teams were named in 1974 and 1975. Since 1976 the ABCA has selected three teams from each of the three NCAA divisions. In 1981 the magazine Baseball America began selecting its own team; Collegiate Baseball magazine began selecting a team in 1991. Both magazines only select players from the NCAA Division-I.
