Biographical Information[edit]

Federico Tanco is one of the rare Argentinian players to make it to Organized Baseball. His brother Agustín Tanco has been his teammate on the Argentinian national team.

Tanco helped the Argentinian national team win the 2004 South American Championship, their first outright South American Championship title. He debuted in OB in 2005 with the Florida/Washington team in the Venezuelan Summer League, going 0-3 with a 4.34 ERA and 22 walks in 29 innings. In 2006, he was 2-5 with a 2.59 ERA for the DSL Nationals 2, striking out 38 in 41 2/3 innings. Tanco turned it up a few notches in 2007; he pitched two games for the DSL Nationals 2 but spent most of the season helping the DSL Nationals 1 to the Dominican Summer League pennant. He struck out 89 in 65 innings while walking only nine and had a 6-1, 1.52 record.

Tanco was 1-2 with two saves and a 4.43 ERA for the 2008 GCL Nationals, striking out 24 in 22 1/3 IP. In '09, he went 1-1 with a 2.39 ERA in 19 games for the Vermont Lake Monsters. He helped Argentina win a Bronze Medal at the 2010 South American Games in an upset over the Dutch Antilles. He gave up just one run in seven against the Antilles in the 2010 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament, as Argentina again pulled out a win. He was MVP of the finals when Argentina won the 2011 South American Championship, beating Ecuador in the title game. He also helped them to a Gold in the 2012 South American Championship. He also played in the 2015 South American Championship.

In the 2016 South American Championship, he was rocked by Brazil (7 H, BB, 5 R, 2 ER in 3 2/3 IP; Guido Monis relieved) in a loss in the round-robin phase. In the semifinals, he relieved Diego Echeverría with a 6-4 lead in the 7th but allowed 5 runs, 4 hits and 3 walks in the next 3 innings and Colombia tied it at 9. Federico Robles relieved him in the 10th. Argentina would rally to advance to the finals and finished with a Silver Medal.
