Biographical Information[edit]

Dayan Frías played in the minor leagues and has been on the Colombian national team.

Frías was signed by the Cleveland Indians in 2018, and he hit .216/.383/.291 for the DSL Indians in his first year (2019). After the coronavirus shut down the minor leagues in 2020, Frias improved to .322/.420/.520 with the ACL Indians, finishing third in the Arizona League in average (after Adrián Sugastey and Garrett Frechette), third in OBP (after Milkar Pérez and Isaiah Greene), tied for 7th in doubles (12), 4th in slugging (between Yosy Galan and Alexander Suarez) and second in OPS (9 behind Wilfred Veras). [1] He was named the All-Star second baseman. [2]

That winter, he played 28 games for the Vaqueros de Monteria with a .211/.364/.432 slash line in his native Colombian League. He also appeared in the 2022 Caribbean Series, and he was 1-for-6 for the champion Caimanes de Barranquilla, backing up 3B Mauricio Ramos. He then hit .239/.344/.330 with 6 homers for the Lynchburg Hillcats in 2022, and he hit .347/.492/.592 with Monteria. Frias played in the Caribbean Series again, and he was 6-for-32 this time. He was named the All-Star shortstop, presumably for his defense. [3]

The Cartagena native then made it onto Colombia's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. He was 0-for-4 as their starting shortstop in their opener against Mexico, and he went 2-for-4 versus Great Britain, with a 2-RBI single off Graham Spraker. He was 1-for-2 versus Canada, and he went 0-for-3 against the USA. [4] Frias crushed 11 homers with a .260/.356/.426 batting line for the Lake County Captains in 2023, and he batted .293/.368/.310 for the Vaqueros in the winter. He began '24 with the Akron RubberDucks.
