Biographical Information[edit]
Dave Brazell served three years in the 1st Marine Division, during World War II, in Okinawa and China. He then got degrees from Arkansas State Teachers College, University of Arkansas, and Arizona State University.
Brazell coached high school in Arkansas. Moving to Grand Canyon College in 1951, he coached golf, basketball and baseball. He took the baseball team to the 1969 NAIA College World Series, 1971 NAIA College World Series, 1973 NAIA College World Series and 1980 NAIA College World Series (a national title). He was the basketball coach for 13 years and baseball coach for 28 years. In all he spent 50 years at the school. His wife of 72 years also spent 38 years teaching at GCC. Brazell is in the GCU Hall of Fame and the baseball field is named Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark after him.
Brazell was also a football official, serving in the WAC, Pac-10, and World Football League. He officiated a Sugar Bowl and a Rose Bowl. [1]
