Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Chris Hill played in the minor leagues from 1988 to 1996, peaking at AAA.

He was drafted out of high school by the New York Mets in the 42nd round of the 1987 amateur draft. He began his professional career with the Little Falls Mets the next year, going 5-5 with a 3.06 ERA in 13 starts. The following season, with the Columbia Mets, he went 11-7 with a 3.04 ERA in 29 games (25 starts). In 165 2/3 innings, he allowed 140 hits while striking out 157 batters.

He pitched for the St. Lucie Mets in 1990, posting a 9-8 record with a save and a 3.19 ERA in 27 games (25 starts). 1991 was split between St. Lucie (4-0, 1.12 ERA, 6 G) and the Williamsport Bills (3-3, Sv, 4.69 ERA, 27 G, 12 GS). He went 7-3 with a 3.74 ERA overall.

The next spring training, the Mets released Hill. He was signed as a free agent by the Houston Astros. With the Osceola Astros in 1992, Hill went 16-7 with a 2.93 ERA in 30 games (26 starts). He led the Florida State League in wins (one ahead of Steve Schrenk) and tied for third in games started. He also won more games than any other Astros farmhand and tied Rob Mallicoat's franchise record for victories. He and Brien Taylor were named the FSL's All-Star left-handed pitchers.

The following year, he moved to the bullpen and went 6-4 with two saves and a 3.86 ERA in 58 games (three starts) for the Jackson Generals. He walked 53 in 105 innings. He was third in the Texas League in appearances behind Bryan Eversgerd and Jose Musset.

For Jackson in 1994, Hill went 5-3 with a save and a 3.78 ERA in 45 appearances. The following year, he pitched for five teams: the High Desert Mavericks (0-2, 9.00 ERA, 5 G) of the Baltimore Orioles system, the Trenton Thunder (0-0, 9.00 ERA, 7 G) and Pawtucket Red Sox (2-3, 6.10 ERA, 10 G) of the Boston Red Sox system and the Lubbock Crickets (0-0, 27.00 ERA, 1 G) and Mobile BaySharks (3-1, 5.93 ERA, 6 G) of the independent Texas-Louisiana League, going 5-6 with a 6.89 ERA in 29 games (17 starts) overall. He last pitched for the Tennessee Tomahawks of the Big South League in 1996, going 0-1 with a 7.77 ERA in five starts.

Overall, Hill went 64-44 (.593 W%) in 269 games (134 starts).

Hill threw a curveball and changeup while his fastball peaked in the mid-80s.
