Biographical Information[edit]

Cheng-Hao Wang has pitched in the CPBL minors and for the Taiwanese national team. His cousin Yao-Lin Wang was in the Cubs chain and cousin Wei-Chung Wang played in the majors. [1]

He pitched one game in the CPBL minors in 2009, with a 3.00 ERA. [2] He was part of Taiwan's designated pitcher pool for the 2017 World Baseball Classic but was not activated. He had a 0.96 ERA for Taiwan when they won the 2017 World Port Tournament and got the decision in the finale; he had two saves before that. He was 6th in the event in ERA (between Daisuke Yamagami and Yoandry Ruiz), 8th in opponent average (.219, between Yao-Tso Kao and Rob Cordemans), 7th in strikeouts (7), tied Luis Castillo for the most saves and led with five games pitched. [3] He had a 1.59 ERA for Taiwan when they won Silver in the 2017 Asian Championship. [4]

Wang was 1-0 with a save and a 2.08 ERA in the 2018 Haarlem Baseball Week, with a 3-inning save for Chia-Chun Tang's win over the host Dutch national team and an extra-inning win over Italy. He tied Loek van Mil and Andrea Pizziconi for 2nd in the tournament in saves. [5] In the 2018 Asian Games, he was the only hurler with multiple saves in the main round. He saved Sheng-Feng Wu's win over Gold Medal-bound South Korea. Relieving Tsung-Hao Wang with a 2-1 lead and one on in the bottom of the 9th, he struck out Jae-won Lee and Ah-seop Son then got former major leaguer Jae-gyun Hwang on a fly to end it. In his other outing, he preserved Chien-Lung Huang's 1-0 win over China. Relieving Tang with a man on second, one out and a 1-0 lead in the top of the 8th, he fanned Zhenhong Lu and got Xiaolei Du to hit into a force. In the 9th, he got Ning Li swinging, Shunyi Yang on a grounder and Fujia Chu on a game-ending comebacker. Taiwan finished with the Bronze. [6]

In the 2019 World Port Tournament, he allowed one run in two innings, not the starring turn of two years prior. [7]

He throws a forkball, curveball, sinker, slider and fastball (peak 94 mph). [8]
