Biographical Information[edit]

Shunyi Yang has been an outfielder for the Tianjin Lions of the China Baseball League and for the Chinese national team. He played in the 2013 East Asian Games.

In the 2014 Asian Games, he hit .313/.368/.438 with two runs and five RBI in five games; China's starting left fielder, he had five putouts, one assist and no errors. He led China in RBI (one over Yi Lu), tied for third in runs (behind Xiaolei Du and Lu) and tied Xiao Cui for third among the regulars in slugging (after Wei Wang and Lu). He came up with two big plays against host South Korea, throwing out Hyun-soo Kim at home then later doubling in Wang (facing Jae-hak Lee) to tie the game in the 4th. South Korea would win the game and the Gold Medal for the Games, but China had given them a scare for a while, thanks to Yang.

Yang was 3 for 10 with two walks, two RBI and three runs while starting in left for China (he also played briefly in center). All three runs came against Indonesia but were enough to nearly led the team, one behind Chuang Na. Only Na had a better average among the regulars. Yang tied for third in RBI behind Cui and Na.
