The Canton-Akron Indians were members of the Eastern League from 1989, when they moved from Burlington, Vermont, through 1996. The franchise had a short time between moving into new stadiums: In 1988, the V-Mariners moved into new Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium; in 1997, they moved into Canal Park with another new name - Akron Aeros, when Akron built a $30.7 million stadium.

Among the more recognizable names in team history (in retrospect) are Albert Belle (then called Joey Belle) ('89), Jim Thome ('91-'92), Brian Giles ('92-'93), Richie Sexson ('96) and Bartolo Colon ('96).
