Biographical Information[edit]
After playing both baseball and football at UCLA, Brian Graham was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 1982 amateur draft. He played five seasons in the minors in the A's, Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers, and Cleveland Indians organizations.
After his playing days ended, Graham spent nine seasons as a minor league manager, posting a winning record every year and an overall 704-491 mark. He then spent a season as an Indians coach and was a member of the Baltimore Orioles staff in 2000.
After a stint in the Florida Marlins organization, he became Senior Director of Player Development for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He became interim general manager of the 2007 Pirates when Dave Littlefield was fired in September. After Neal Huntington was hired as GM, Graham was let go the next month. It was considered somewhat of a surprise move as Graham and Huntington had worked together in the Indians chain and Graham was considered one of the more likely Pirates staff members to stay around.
Graham was named the special assignment coach for the minor leagues for the Baltimore Orioles on October 30, 2007. In 2008, he was named the Orioles' Coordinator of Minor League Instruction, a position he held through 2012. In 2013 Graham was the Orioles' Director of Player Development.
His son Jack Graham was drafted in 2011.
