California Fall League
The California Fall League was Major League Baseball third attempt at establishing a a second winter league under its auspices; the first being the successful Arizona Fall League. It was formed in 1999, and followed the Hawaii Winter League (1994-1997), and the Maryland Fall League (1998).
The Lancaster Stealth won the pennant with a 26-16 record then took the playoffs as well. Lancaster was led by OF Juan Pierre (the league leader with 37 runs, 52 hits and 27 steals) and C Brandon Inge (a league-best .407 average and 4 triples). Ben Broussard of the second-place San Bernardino Sand Dragons led the loop with 9 homers and Scott Wiggins (2-3, 2.33) of the Rancho Cucamonga Surfers had the best ERA.
