Biographical Information

Pitcher Brooks Carey was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the tenth round of the 1978 amateur draft and played five minor league seasons in the O's and Cincinnati Reds chains, reaching as high as the AAA level.

Carey debuted as a pro with the 1979 Bluefield Orioles, going 3-8 with a 3.35 ERA and leading the Appalachian League in homers allowed (11), hits given up (98) and tying for the most losses. In 1979, he was 10-7 for the Miami Orioles, posting a 2.45 ERA and walking only 23 in 125 innings. He was 8th in the Florida State League in ERA. He also spent part of the season with the Charlotte O's (4-2, 3.71).

With Charlotte for all of 1980, Brooks posted a 8-7, 3.70 record with 39 walks in 163 innings. He was 10-9 with a 3.37 ERA for the '81 Rochester Red Wings, 9th in the 1981 International League in ERA. The only lefties with better ERAs were Bob Ojeda, Bruce Hurst, Paul Mirabella and Ken Dayley. Baltimore dealt him with Dallas Williams to the Reds for Joe Nolan and Carey ended his career with the 1982 Indianapolis Indians (2-5, 3.89).

Carey has been pitching coach of the Normal CornBelters in 2010-2011 and Evansville Otters in 2012. Previously, he had served in the same capacity with the Sussex Skyhawks. Carey became manager of the CornBelters in 2013.
