Biographical Information[edit]
Alexander Kienberger debuted for the Diving Ducks Wiener Neustadt in 2017. [1] In '18, the 16-year-old hit .128/.227/.179, allowing one run in 3 1/3 IP. He followed with a .172/.461/.208 line in 2019 and he gave up 15 runs (10 earned) in 4 innings. He tied for 5th in the league with 21 walks.
In 2020, he batted .162/.392/.270 and had a 1-4, 8.35 record. He improved to 4-0, 2.76 in '21 and hit .194/.431/.306. He tied for 9th in wins. During the 2022 Federation Cup, he was 0 for 5 with a walk, hit-by-pitch and a run. [2] He did not pitch and hit .138/.242/.172 in the Austrian season. In '23, he was 0-1 with 3 saves and a 6.23 ERA and went 2-for-18.
He still made the Austrian national team for the 2023 European Championship. His one outing was forgettable. Relieving Ryan Rupp in the 8th with a 6-5 deficit against Greece, he retired Kasey Caras but walked Dimitri Kourtis and gave up a homer to Ari Sechopoulos. Nick Spiliotis flew out then Achielleas Karaiskos singled, Antonio Torres-Skerrett drew a walk and Michael Dudunakis singled to make it 9-5. Konstantin Teufel relieved and let both inherited runners score, leaving Kienberger with a 67.50 ERA. He tied Peter Gornik for the second-highest ERA in the event, behind Benny Wanger's infinite. [3]
