Biographical Information

Adrian Ramirez had pitched in 493 minor league games before he turned 30 years old.

Ramirez was 6-8 with a 5.31 ERA as a rookie for the 2003 Acereros de Monclova, walking only 24 in 101 2/3 IP. The lefty fell to 4-3, 6.75 in 2004. but rebounded to go 4-2 with a 4.55 ERA in 2005; as a LOOGY, he only pitched 29 2/3 innings over 43 games. He was 0-1 with a save and a 5.17 ERA in 38 1/3 IP and 50 GP for the 2006 Acereros, walking only 5 batters. In 2007, he went 3-0 with two saves and a 2.27 ERA in 51 outings. He pitched four games for the Yaquis de Obregón in the 2008 Caribbean Series, allowing one run in two innings. He led his team in outings, tied for third in the Series, one behind Randy Choate and Joel Peralta. Ramirez took the loss against the Tigres del Licey; in the 11th inning, he issued a leadoff walk to D'Angelo Jimenez; Hugo Castellanos would relieve but Jimenez scored later in the frame on a fly from Jose Bautista.

With Monclova in the summer of 2008, Adrian went 2-0 with a 3.47 ERA in 48 IP (8 BB in 36 1/3 IP). The next year, he was 2-5 with a 3.90 ERA in 52 games (32 1/3 IP) for Monclova. With the Acereros in 2010, he was 2-3 with four saves and a 3.46 ERA in 54 games. In the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games, he pitched very well for the Silver Medal-winning Mexican national team with 2 hits, 6 strikeouts, no walks and no runs in 4 2/3 IP. He blanked eventual champion Dominican Republic in a 3-inning start but Alfonso Sanchez got the win in relief. Ramirez got the win versus Puerto Rico as the third pitcher in a four-man shutout, working with Carlos Elizalde, Cupertino Leon and Francisco Villegas.

He pitched four games (3 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K, 0 R) for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in the 2011 Caribbean Series. He was not the only pitcher named Adrian Ramirez on the team, oddly enough. He tied nine others, including the other Adrian Ramirez, for the Series lead in pitching appearances. He only pitched 35 games (2-2, 3.38 in 21 1/3 IP) for Monclova that summer. He tossed two shutout innings (3 H) in 3 games for the Yaquis in the 2012 Caribbean Series. He had his best summer yet in 2012, with a 0.88 WHIP and 1.98 ERA in 57 games (41 IP, 48 K) for Monclova though his record was 0-2. He tied Gabriel Alfaro, Jose Cobos and Heberto Gonzalez for 7th in the Mexican League in games pitched.

Ramirez was charged with one run in 1 1/3 IP over five games for the Yaquis in the 2013 Caribbean Series. He tied Oscar Villarreal, Dennys Reyes and Jailen Peguero for second in the Series in games pitched, one behind Cobos. With Monclova in 2013, the short southpaw had a 5-3, 2.22 record with 50 K to 5 BB in 48 2/3 IP over 57 games. He was 7th in the Mexican League in appearances, one behind Alan Guerrero and one ahead of Villegas and the other Adrian Ramirez.
