Jose Cobos Carrillo

Jose Cobos broke in during 2005 with the Monterrey Sultans, going 0-1 with a 6.11 ERA and a WHIP of almost two. He also pitched briefly for the San Luis Potosi Cactus Pear Growers that year. In 2006, Cobos went 8-3 with 4 saves and a 4.02 ERA as a regular member of the San Luis bullpen. In '07, Jose was 1-2 with a save and a 3.95 ERA in 39 relief appearances for Monterrey. He was one of Mexico's top performers in the 2007 Baseball World Cup, going 1-0 with a save and a 1.13 ERA while allowing only 3 hits in 8 innings. Both his win and his save came against the host Taiwan, with the save coming in the 7th/8th place game.

Cobos had no decisions in 30 games for Monterrey in 2008, but his ERA improved to 2.75 and he allowed a .221 average in the high-scoring Mexican League. That winter, he was 1-2 with a save and a 2.17 ERA in 30 games for the Mazatlan Deer to help them win the Mexican Pacific League pennant. In the 2009 Caribbean Series, Jose allowed one run in 3 innings but it was a crucial one; entering a 0-0 game against the Tigres de Aragua in the 11th inning, Cobos served up a homer to Hector Gimenez to end the game.
