2020 College World Series
The 2020 College World Series were scheduled to open in Omaha, NE on June 13, 2020. However, on March 13th, the NCAA announced that the event would be canceled because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A similar decision affected all of college sports' winter and spring championships, including its flagship basketball tournaments. While the college baseball season had been under way since February, all games had been suspended in early March, with little chance that they would resume in time to conclude the season.
The decision to cancel the college baseball season and the College World Series also led to changes to the 2020 Amateur Draft, which was scheduled to take place in conjunction with the event. It ended up being done through a video call.
It was the first time the College World Series had been canceled since they were first held in 1947.
