History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 1988 Seattle Mariners were a team of decent power, decent speed and decent pitching, but it was not enough to manage a respectable record. Their 148 home runs were the 4th-most in the 14-team American League, with Steve Balboni's 21 dingers leading the way. Three players stole at least 18 bases, with Harold Reynolds' 35 swipes (and 29 times caught stealing) most on the team. The team's ERA was only 10th in the league, but the club still featured worthwhile performances by Mark Langston (15-11 record, 3.34 ERA), Mike Moore (3.78 ERA, 9 complete games), Scott Bankhead (3.07 ERA in 21 starts) and Michael Jackson (62 relief appearances, 2.63 ERA). The club also had four pitchers with ERAs over 6.
