Biographical Information[edit]
Scott Bankhead helped guide the University of North Carolina collegiate team with an 11-0 record in 1984. That year, he compiled a 1-0 record with a 0.93 ERA for the Olympic Team. Overall at UNC, Scott recorded 24 wins to only 3 losses. He held the school record for best winning percentage until it was tied by Adam Warren (2006-2009). Scott was also a Golden Gloves boxing champion.
After being traded from the Kansas City Royals for Danny Tartabull, Scott finally got his first real chance as a starting pitcher with the Seattle Mariners. In 1989, following the trade of Mark Langston, Scott became the team's ace and enjoyed his only double-digit victory season with 14. He suffered shoulder problems between 1990 and 1991 and hung around with several teams until 1995. Not overpowering, he threw a sinking fastball, a slider and a change-up.
