The 1995 Seattle Mariners played the 19th season since the franchise's creation, and they finished 1st in the American League West with a record of 79-66 after making an amazing comeback from 12½ games back in the division on August 20th to steal the division title from the California Angels in a one-game playoff. They then defeated the New York Yankees in the best-of-five American League Division Series after being down 2 games to 0. They advanced into the 1995 American League Championship Series, where they succumbed in 6 games to the Cleveland Indians. The success, however, spurred the funding for a new stadium, Safeco Field, which opened in July 1999.
