The 1987 Milwaukee Brewers opened the season with 17 wins in their first 18 games, including a 13-game winning streak to start the season. No team has matched either mark since and the 13 wins to open a season are tied with the 1982 Atlanta Braves and 2023 Tampa Bay Rays for most by any team since 1901. Included in that streak was a no-hitter by Juan Nieves on April 15th, when he defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 7-0. This is still the only no-hitter in franchise history. However, in spite of that hot start, the Brewers were unable to win a division title, as they were passed by both the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays, who were locked in a clash of titans for first place until the final day of the season. As a result, in spite of winning 91 games - their highest total since winning the American League pennant in 1982 - the Brewers finished in third place, seven games back of the Tigers.

While the Brewers looked to be an up-and-coming team after the 1987 season, it turned out to be a one-year blip as they would quickly sink into mediocrity, only matching that win total once until 2011, when they won 92 games in 1992.
