Managed by George Stallings
Ballpark: South End Grounds and Fenway Park
History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 1913 Boston Braves were the first team to use platooning extensively as a strategy, under first-year manager George Stallings. He used the strategy in LF where Joe Connolly shared playing time with Bris Lord; in RF with Tommy Griffith and Les Mann; and at 3B between Art Devlin and Tex McDonald. A few other teams also platooned that season, but none at more than one position. The strategy went under the radar given the Braves not particularly successful, but it would be thrown into the spotlight in 1914 when the Braves won a completely unexpected pennant.
