Biographical Information[edit]

Yuri Sanchez played in the minor leagues and the Taiwan Major League.

Sanchez was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 2nd round of the 1992 Amateur Draft, between Mike Gulan and Todd Helton; he was the 54th pick that year. He hit .177/.317/.235 for the Bristol Tigers in his first season with as many errors (16) as runs produced, fielding .874 at short. He had a .203/.345/.259 batting line for the Fayetteville Generals in 1993 while fielding .927, then he recorded a .205/.303/.282 batting line in 28 games for the Trenton Thunder while hitting .232/.342/.303 with 21 steals for the Lakeland Tigers. He was 4th among Tigers farmhands with seven triples and tied for 8th in swipes. Sanchez struggled again in 1995 as his batting line was .214/.294/.330 for the Jacksonville Suns, but his defense continued to improve (.957). His seven three-baggers tied Juan Encarnación and Rob Lukachyk for the most by a Tigers farmhand and tied for 5th in the Southern League. He played 18 games with a .237/.318/.407 batting line for the Visalia Oaks before the Tigers traded him to the Cincinnati Reds for Gregg Olson on April 26.

After changing teams, Sanchez only hit .215/.298/.317 for the Winston-Salem Warthogs in 1996, and he improved to .256/.320/.462 with the Burlington Bees in 1997 though his fielding regressed to .923. He was then traded to the New York Mets for Roberto Petagine, and his batting line was .260/.341/.377 in 93 games for the Binghamton Mets; his fielding rebounded to .960. He hit .231/.300/.302 and fielded .937 there in 1999, then he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2000. Sanchez played 42 games with a .217/.288/.384 batting line for the High Desert Mavericks in 2000, and he also hit .261/.299/.435 in 26 games for the Aberdeen Arsenal.

He then hit .233/.290/.368 for the Camden Riversharks in 2001, and the Chianan Luka of Taiwan signed him. Sanchez's batting line was .309/.342/.409 in 34 games in the 2001 TML, then he returned to Camden and batted .234/.310/.390 in 2002. Sanchez went to the North Shore Spirit in 2003, and he hit 9 triples with a .279/.321/.442 batting line. Only Marcos Agramonte had more triples in that year's Northeast League. He recorded a .261/.315/.400 batting line with ten triples in 2004 (pacing the league in three-baggers, four more than Agramonte), but he slumped to .203/.276/.269 in 2005 then he retired.
