Biographical Information[edit]
Won-woo Cho played in the KBO for 15 years.
Cho was drafted by the Ssangbangwool Raiders in the 5th round of the 1994 KBO draft, and he hit .274/.312/.359 in his first season. He only played 38 games in 1995, and he recorded a .268/.328/.320 batting line in 1996. Cho improved to .321/.355/.441 with 9 triples and 15 steals in 1997, and he led the league in triples. He was also 8th in hits (tied with Han-soo Kim) and 8th in batting (between Seok-chun Kang and Yong-bin Seo). Cho crushed a career-high 12 homers with a .311/.365/.445 batting line in 1998, and he was 6th in batting (between Sung-ho Jang and Gi-tae Kim), 2nd in hits (7 behind Joon-hyuk Yang) and 7th in steals (21 behind Soo-keun Jung).
The Busan native missed most of the next two seasons due to left hip injury, then he had a .244/.339/.368 batting line for the SK Wyverns in 2001. Cho batted .269/.320/.391 in 2002, then he bounced back with a .281/.349/.374 batting line in 2003. He played 119 games with a .277/.361/.355 batting line in 2004, and he was traded to the Hanwha Eagles for Young-min Cho. Cho ended up hitting .302/.362/.407 with 6 homers, and he was 9th in batting (between Lou Collier and Sung-ho Jang). He made an error in 2006 and ended his 494 game streak without having an error as an outfielder, and that was still the KBO record as of 2024. Cho's batting line was .267/.332/.305 in 2006, and he hit .267/.329/.357 in 2007. He only played 5 games in 2008, then he announced his retirement.
After retiring, Cho became the minor league fielding coach for the Eagles in 2009, and he became the fielding coach for the Lotte Giants from 2011 to 2012 and for the Doosan Bears in 2013. He went to the SK Wyverns as their baserunning coach from 2014 to 2015, and the Giants named him their manager from 2016 to 2019. Cho was the bench coach for the SSG Landers from 2021 to 2024, then he came back to the Giants in 2025.
Overall, Cho hit .282/.342/.381 with 1,190 hits and 68 homers in 15 seasons in the KBO.
