Biographical Information[edit]

Yong-bin Seo played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 9 years.

Seo was drafted by the LG Twins in the 6th round of the 1994 KBO draft, and he hit .319/.371/.420 in 126 games in his first season. He hit for a cycle on April 16 against the Lotte Giants, and he was the first rookie to do it in KBO history. He was 4th in batting (between Deok-kyu Yun and Gi-tae Kim), 2nd in doubles (4 behind Min-ho Kim), 6th in RBI (tied with Hyun-woo Hong) and 2nd in hits (39 behind Jong-beom Lee). He set the KBO rookie hits record with 157, and he held it until Jung-hoo Lee broke it in 2017. Seo also won the KBO Gold Glove as a first baseman.

The Seoul native extended his solid batting in 1995, hitting .306/.365/.406 with 28 doubles. He was 8th in hits (12 behind Tae-won Choi), 7th in batting (between Jun-heon Kwon and Hong) and 5th in doubles (between Hyeong-seok Kim and Hae-yong Ma). Seo slumped to .242/.319/.323 in 1996, and he bounced back with a .316/.379/.439 batting line in 1997. He was then involved in a car accident and missed the entire 1998 regular season, and he was caught having fake knee surgery to dodge military service. Seo missed the next season, and he had a .274/.355/.351 batting line in 2000. He then hit .286/.358/.359 in 126 games in 2001, and he recorded a .286/.345/.385 batting line in 2002. He spent the next two seasons in the military, and he was 5-for-39 in 2005 after returning. Seo hit .192/.241/.288 in 2006, then he announced his retirement.

Seo was a scout for the Twins in 2008, and he became their minor league batting coach from 2008 to 2009. He then became their big club batting coach from 2010 to 2011, and he returned to the minors in 2012. The Twins named Seo their assistant batting coach in 2013, and he went to the Chunichi Dragons as their minor league assistant batting coach in 2014. Seo returned to the Twins as their batting coach from 2015 to 2017, and he was the bench coach for the minor league team of the KT Wiz from 2021 to 2022. He managed that team in 2023, and he joined the Twins as the same position in 2024. Seo was also a commentator for SPOTV from 2018 to 2020.

Overall, Seo hit .290/.353/.384 with 760 hits and 22 homers in 9 seasons in the KBO.
