Biographical Information[edit]

Wen-Mao Liu pitched in the CPBL for 9 years. His uncles Kuang-Huei Wang and Kuang-Shih Wang also played in the CPBL.

Liu was signed by the Brother Elephants in 1997, and he was 1-1 with a 4.77 ERA in his rookie year. He slumped to a 6.05 ERA in 19 games in 1998, and his ERA rose to 6.48 in 15 games in 1999. Liu bounced back in 2000 as he recorded a 3.57 ERA in 11 games, but he struggled again in 2001 and he recorded a 6.17 ERA in 11 games. He pitched a shutout inning in 2001 Taiwan Series Game 2, but he then allowed 5 runs and walked 6 in 3 1/3 innings in Game 3. The Elephants still beat the Uni-President Lions in 7 games, and Liu won his first title.

The Hualien native then went 5-7 with a 5.08 ERA in 2002, and he was 2-3 with a 4.43 ERA in 2003. He relieved Chin-Li Wang in the 8th inning of 2003 Taiwan Series Game 2, but he surrendered 2 runs in 2/3 of a inning. The Brothers beat the Sinon Bulls in 6 games, and Liu won his second title. He had a 4.74 ERA in 10 games in 2004, then he underwent right hand surgery and missed the entire 2005 season. The Brothers released him after the 2005 season, and his professional career ended.

Liu's repertoire included a fastball, knuckle curve and forkball.

Overall, Liu was 11-15 with a 5.08 ERA, struck out 185 and pitched 304 2/3 innings in 9 seasons in the CPBL.
