Biographical Information

Kuang-Shih Wang is a former Olympic Silver Medalist. He is the brother of Kuang-Huei Wang, uncle of Wei-Chen Wang and Wen-Mao Liu and a cousin of Chung-Yi Huang.

Wang played in the 1980 Little League World Series, 1985 World Junior Championship, 1987 World Port Tournament, 1987 Intercontinental Cup, 1988 Haarlem Baseball Week, 1989 Asian Championship, 1989 Intercontinental Cup, 1990 Goodwill Games and 1990 Asian Games. In the 1990 Baseball World Cup, he was 3 for 18 as Taiwan's starting first baseman. In the 1991 Asian Championship, he hit a crucial homer to beat Australia and win a spot in the 1992 Olympics.

The Hualien native hit .308/.387/.462 with four steals in five tries in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup while playing error-free ball despite bouncing between first base, second base and shortstop. He was 0 for 4 with a hit-by-pitch and time caught stealing in the 13-inning Bronze Medal game loss to Nicaragua.

Wang starred for Taiwan in the 1992 Olympics, hitting .346/.433/.615 with eight runs and 12 RBI in eight games. He tied Antonio Pacheco and Lázaro Vargas for 4th in RBI behind Victor Mesa, Wen-Chung Chang and Koji Tokunaga. He had 3 hits and 3 RBI against both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic and hit a 3-run homer off Darren Dreifort in a 10-9 loss to Team USA. In the Gold Medal game, he hit 5th and started at first but only played four innings, going 0 for 1 against Giorge Diaz, before Kuo-Chian Ku replaced him.

When the China Times Eagles were founded in 1993, Wang signed with them and turned pro. Despite having been a first baseman as an amateur, he was used at second as a professional. He hit .261/.312/.353 in 1993, .238/.269/.385 in 1994, .292/.331/.413 in 1995, .301/.347/.404 in 1996 and .303/.331/.400 in 1997 before his career ended (along with many teammates) as part of a game-fixing scandal. He won a CPBL Gold Glove on second in 1995.

Overall, Wang batted .276/.316/.391 in 5 seasons in the CPBL and had fielded .981.
