December 21: Today's featured birthday is that of Freddy Sanchez, who turns 47.
- 1981 - Pedro Guerrero drives in five runs and Burt Hooton pitches well to give the Dodgers the 1981 World Series title over the Yankees in six games.
- 1984 - The Cuban national team routs Team USA, 10-1, in the final day of action at the 1984 Amateur World Series; Cuba had already clinched the gold medal. 1B Antonio Munoz is 4 for 4 with two homers while US star Barry Bonds goes hitless.
- 1989 - The A's complete their sweep of the 1989 World Series over Bay rivals San Francisco. Dave Stewart (pictured) is named MVP of the earthquake-interrupted Series.
- 1995 - Tom Glavine and Mark Wohlers combine on a one-hit shutout of the Indians and David Justice homers off Jim Poole in a 1-0 Braves win to cap the 1995 World Series, giving the team its first title since moving to Atlanta, GA.
- 2000 - The Yomiuri Giants beat the Daiei Hawks, 9-3, to finish up the 2000 Japan Series. The Series was noted for the opposing managers, long-time teammates Sadaharu Oh and Shigeo Nagashima. Kenji Johjima hits his fourth homer of the Series in a losing cause. Hideki Matsui is named Series MVP.
- 2007 - The Red Sox complete a sweep of the Rockies in the 2007 World Series. Colorado had won 21 of their last 22 games entering the Series. Mike Lowell wins World Series MVP honors.
