Biographical Information[edit]

Susumu Yoza played for the Peruvian national team in the 2011 South American Championship and when they won Bronze in the 2012 South American Championship. He was the shortstop for Peru in the 2013 Bolivarian Games, hitting .235/.316/.235 with a steal and a team-high four runs in five games; he scored 2 runs in their 3-1 upset of Bronze Medal-winning Ecuador. He fielded .875 at short. He was the top offensive performer for Peru in the 2016 South American Championship, hitting .364/.391/.591 with five runs and six RBI in five games in the round-robin phase; he homered off Pablo Ossandón in a 5-4 win over Chile that put Peru into the semifinals. In the round-robin, he tied Alan Fanhoni and Eduardo Zurbriggen for second in the event in hits (8), one behind leader James Sommerville. He also tied Daniel Catalan, Felipe Burin and Rodney Medeiros for 6th in RBI. He was 1 for 7 in the semifinals and 3rd/4th place game, getting one of two Peruvian hits off Miguel Puello of Colombia in losing the Bronze Medal game.

He was 2 for 12 with a walk and a double in the 2017 Bolivarian Games, while he fielded .778 with 5 errors in 4 games. His numbers may seem unimpressive on offense but he was the only Peruvian player with multiple hits in the tourney and the only one with an extra-base hit. He and Adriano Loayza had the only Peruvian hits against Venezuela and he had one of their two hits off William Ponce and El Salvador. He tied Edson Piovan for the team lead in errors.
