Biographical Information[edit]

Daniel Catalan has played in France and Spain and for the Chilean national team.

Catalan hit .260/.422/.320 for Long Beach City College in 2012, then .290/.365/.352 and .276/.410/.351 in two years at Holy Names University. He signed with CB Barcelona in Spain's Division Honor for 2015 and batted .265/.395/.382 while handling 50 putouts and 4 assists error-free. The outfield also pitched one game (2 R in 2/3 IP). He tied for second in the league with six sacrifice hits.

As his father is Chilean, he qualified to play for Chile in the 2016 South American Championship and was a star performer for them, hitting .360/.385/.640 with three runs and nine RBI in six games while playing error-free ball again. In the round-robin phase, his six RBI tied Susumu Yoza, Felipe Burin and Rodney Medeiros for 6th in the event. His two triples for the event tied Federico Gómez and Burin for second, one behind Mauricio Costa. In the 5th/6th place game, he was 3 for 5 with a double, triple, run and 3 RBI, also pitching two innings (1 H, 0 R, 3 K).

For 2017, he signed with France's Paris Université Club. He hit .370/.462/.389 with 12 steals in 13 tries in 18 games. He was not as good on the mound (0-2, 20.86 ERA, 16 H in 7 1/3 IP). He was 10th in French Division I in steals. Had he qualified, he would have ranked 10th in the league in average. He was back with Chile for the 2018 South American Championship, leading off and starting in center. He hit .353/.542/.471 with 5 walks and 6 runs in 5 games for the Bronze Medal winners. He tied Eduardo Zurbriggen for 5th in the tournament in runs, tied Sebastián García and Ricardo Kirihara for the most walks and came close to the top 5 in OBP.

He played for UKS Deby Osielsko in Poland in 2018.
