Mauricio Costa has been an infielder for the Argentinian national team in the 2004 South American Championship (their first Gold outright in a South American Championship). Hitting leadoff for Argentina in the 2016 South American Championship, he hit .192/.250/.423 for the Silver Medalists with 3 runs and 3 RBI in seven games. His three triples led the tournament, one ahead of Federico Gómez, Felipe Burin and Daniel Catalan. In the 2018 South American Championship, he started at third for Argentina and batted .286/.375/.333 with 3 runs and 2 RBI in six games. In the Gold Medal Game, against defending champion Brazil and a spot in the 2019 Pan American Games at stake, he was 1 for 4 and was hit by a pitch in a win for Argentina; his single off Igor Kimura was the game's first hit.
