Biographical Information[edit]
Stevenson Agosto played 12 seasons in the minor leagues and one in Taiwan.
Agosto began his career with the 1994 AZL Angels. The 17-year-old was 0-2 with a save, 4.44 ERA and 26 whiffs in 26 1/3 IP. The left-hander split 1995 between the AZL Angels (5 R in 5 IP, 0-1) and the Boise Hawks (6-2, 2.92). With the 1996 Cedar Rapids Kernels, he had a 8-10, 4.42 record, walking 86 in 156 2/3 innings. In 1997, he threw for the Lake Elsinore Storm (5-8, 5.32) and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (2-0, 2.86). His two shutouts tied Kelly Wunsch for the California League lead. On August 13 that year, he was dealt with George Arias and Ryan Hancock to the San Diego Padres for Rickey Henderson. Though Henderson was 18 years older than Agosto, he would finish his career only one year earlier.
Stevenson struggled with the 1998 Quakes (5-8, 6.08, a WHIP of 1.85). He went 3-3 with a 5.89 ERA and 59 walks in 81 innings for the 1999 Mobile BayBears after moving to the bullpen. Agosto was the top pitcher of the 2000 Caribbean Series (2-0, 0.00, 2 H in 8 IP) to help the Santurce Crabbers win it all. He split the summer between the St. Petersburg Devil Rays (0-1, 5.40 in 13 G), Orlando Rays (2-2, Sv, 2.4, .203 opponent average) and Durham Bulls (4 hitless innings in his AAA debut).
In 2001, Agosto pitched for Durham (6 R in 5 IP) and Orlando (8-10, 3.90). In 2001-2002, he had a 3-3, 2.66 record for Santurce. The next summer, he was with Orlando (3-1, 2.58) and Durham (4-4, 4.41) and with the Chicago Cubs' Iowa Cubs affiliate (2-1, 6.41, .329 opponent average). In 2003, the Puerto Rican hurler pitched for Taiwan's President Lions (0-1, 13.50) and two Mexican League clubs (5-4, 4.88).
The Rio Piedras native was unimpressive with the 2004 Bridgeport Bluefish (3-8, 5.74, 66 BB in 102 IP), 2005 Newark Bears (released before the season began) and 2006 Amarillo Dillas (4-6, 6.44, 103 H in 79 2/3 IP) to end his career.
