Biographical Information[edit]
Shunya Morita has pitched for the Japanese national team.
Morita played for Honda Suzuka in the industrial leagues after college. [1] He pitched for Japan in the 2022 Asian Games. His only appearance was against China, as he started and pitched three innings. He allowed back-to-back singles to Pei Liang and Ning Li in the first inning, then retired YongKang Kou and struck out Bin Wang and Jiaji Chen. He had another crisis in the next inning when Jie Cao had a leadoff single and Yun Lu drew a walk. Jin Yang bunted, then Du had another walk. Liang hit a clutch RBI single and drove in the only run off Japan in this game. Morita then forced Li to hit a grounder and get Lu at home, then retired Kou. Japan was shut out by China, and Xiang Wang got the win over him. Japan would later avenge the loss in the Bronze Medal Game. [2] The Yomiuri Giants then selected him in the second round of the 2023 NPB draft after taking Yuhi Nishidate with their first pick.
