Sho Akiyama has pitched for the Japanese national team.
Akiyama played for Mitsubishi Okazaki in the industrial leagues after college. [1] He pitched for Japan in the 2023 Asian Championship. He debuted against Thailand, pitching 4 perfect innings with 5 strikeouts, and completed a 5-inning mercy rule perfect Game with his teammate Yoshiki Fuchigami. Akiyama then dueled with Byeong-heon Lee of South Korea, pitched 6 innings with only a run allowed and 8 strikeouts to get the win. Japan won Gold in the event. He was third in the event in K (behind Jo-Hsi Hsu and Muhammad Amjad Aslam), tied for the most wins (with Mizuki Kato, Stefan Mufareh and Yu-Cheng Wu) and had the best ERA of anyone who allowed an earned run.
