Biographical Information[edit]

Scott Marrett was an All-American hurler who never made it out of A ball.

Marrett was 15-0 with a 2.08 ERA as a junior at Pepperdine in 1985. Baseball America named him an All-American, joining Greg Swindell, Mike Cook and Jeff Brantley as the starters picked. He tied for 6th in NCAA Division I in wins, trailing only Swindell, Brantley, Cook, Mark Gardner and Doug Little; all of the others had at least two losses. Scott also was 13th in ERA, between Gary Eave and Rich Scheid. The California Angels took him in the 4th round of the 1985 amateur draft, sandwiched between Dave Justice and Wally Ritchie.

Marrett debuted with the Redwood Pioneers, going 5-5 with a 4.74 ERA, the first of three summers in the California League. In 1986, he improved to 6-6, 4.21 for the Palm Springs Angels. He spent 1987 with the independent San Bernardino Spirit, posting a 2-5, 5.62 mark. His career record as a pro was 13-16, 4.77, fewer wins and a lot more losses than he had gotten as a college junior.
