Biographical Information[edit]

Sang-yeol Park pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Park pitched for the South Korean national team in the 1975 Intercontinental Cup and 1975 Asian Championship, and he served in the Army from 1977 to 1979. When the KBO was founded in 1982, Park joined the OB Bears, and he went 10-5 with a 4.22 ERA. He tied Sung-han Kim for 7th in wins, and he also attended the 1982 KBO All-Star Game. Park improved to 10-9 with a 2.49 ERA in 1983, ranking 7th in wins (tied with Yeong-il Oh and Ki-ryong Ha) and 4th in ERA (between Jong-kyeom Yoo and Gwang-gwon Lee). He extended his solid pitching in 1984, and he had a 12-7 record with a 2.57 ERA. Park was 6th in ERA (between Bong-geun Kim and Ha) and 8th in wins (tied with Seok-hwan Yoon).

The Daejeon native slumped to 3-6 with a 4.13 ERA in 1985, then he went 0-6 with a 3.92 ERA in 1986. Park had a 3-3 record with a 3.84 ERA in 1987, but his ERA rose to 5.59 in 13 games in 1988. He announced his retirement after the 1988 season, and he became the minor league pitching coach for the Pacific Dolphins from 1989 to 1991. Park was named the pitching coach for the Bears from 1992 to 1995, the Ssangbangwool Raiders from 1996 to 1999 and the SK Wyverns in 2000. He then served as pitching coach for the Doosan Bears from 2001 to 2005, for the LG Twins in 2005, for LG's minors team in 06 and for SK's minors team from 2007 to 2011. He was also the bullpen coach for the Wyverns in 2015. He also coached South Korea in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup.

Overall, Park was 38-39 with a 3.49 ERA, struck out 217 and pitched 696 innings in 7 seasons in the KBO.
