San Francisco State University was the home of history professor Jules Tygiel, author of Baseball's Great Experiment: Jackie Robinson and His Legacy and Past Time: Baseball as History, which won SABR's 2001 Seymour Medal for best work of baseball history or biography. The Gators have fielded teams dating back to the 1930s. In March 2025, it was announced San Francisco State would cut baseball along with two other sports following the 2025 season. *
