Dave Nakama
Biographical Information[edit]
Dave Nakama has been a college coach.
Nakama was an assistant coach at Northern Colorado (1985-1986), the University of Iowa (1987-1988), Yavapai College (1989-1990) and De Anza College (1991). He was head coach of Mission College from 1992-1996, then was assistant at Stanford University (1997-1998). He was again head coach, of San Francisco State University, from 1999-2001. From 2002-2009, he was back at Stanford as an assistant followed by a 3-year stint at the University of Washington. He was then hired as head coach of San Jose State University, replacing the retiring Sam Piraro. He held that role from 2013-2016, going 66-162. He then became head coach of Treasure Valley Community College for 2017. Nakama returned to Washington as volunteer assistant from 2018-2021, then moved to the University of Hawaii in 2022.
