Biographical Information[edit]

Samir Dueñez peaked at AAA.

He was signed by Kansas City Royals scouts Alberto Garcia, Richard Castro and Orlando Estevez. [1] He hit .294/.337/.380 for the 2013 AZL Royals. He tied Franmil Reyes and two others for 8th in the Arizona League with 12 doubles. He made the AZL All-Star team. In 2014, he played for the Idaho Falls Chukars (.304/.347/.393 in 39 G) and Lexington Legends (.232/.269/.324 in 41 G). Baseball America rated him as the #17 prospect in the Pioneer League.

Back with Lexington for all of 2015, he hit .266/.314/.332 while playing left field and first base. He bounced around in a solid 2016, playing for Lexington (.272/.312/.419 in 68 G), the Wilmington Blue Rocks (.301/.363/.479 in 56 G) and Northwest Arkansas Naturals (.278/.339/.370 in 14 G), reaching AA at age 20. He fielded .986 at first base, smacked 33 doubles, 5 triples and 13 homers, drove in 100 and stole 26 bases in 30 tries. He was 4th in the Royals chain in doubles (between Corey Toups and Ryan O'Hearn), tied for 5th in triples, 7th in homers, led in RBI (14 ahead of Jorge Bonifacio) and tied Raymond Lopez for 6th in steals. In his winter league debut, he batted .259/.355/.370 for the Navegantes del Magallanes.

In 2017, he produced at a .252/.304/.402 clip for the Naturals, with 17 home runs and 75 RBI. He tied Khalil Lee for 5th in the Royals system in dingers and was 3rd in RBI (after Frank Schwindel and Chris DeVito). He tied Kyle Garlick and Jacob Wilson for 5th in the Texas League in circuit clouts and was third in RBI (behind Viosergy Rosa and Reyes). He was at .227/.352/.267 for the 2017-2018 Navegantes, backing up Mario Lissón at first base. In '18, he was back with the Naturals (.282/.357/.463 in 80 G) and also played seven games with the AZL Royals on a rehab assignment. Moving to the Tiburones de La Guaira, he batted .224/.258/.397 that winter in Venezuela.

Dueñez struggled in 2019, playing for the Naturals (.167/.212/.245 in 28 G) and Omaha Storm Chasers (.214/.283/.335 in 64 G). He was released; the Cincinnati Reds picked him up. [2] He hit .270/.314/.349 in 17 contests for the Chattanooga Lookouts. He hit .219/.235/.219 for the 2019-2020 Tiburones. After the 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic, he played for the Chicago White Sox system in 2021 but was now down to A ball again, hitting .218/.302/.384 for the Winston-Salem Dash. He was only 1-for-11 with a walk for the 2021-2022 Tiburones.

Now off to the independent leagues, he produced at a .259/.331/.421 clip for the Kentucky Wild Health Genomes. He was 3-for-13 with a walk for La Guaira that winter. He then was with the Palestine team in the 2023 Asian Championship but did not play. [3] As the US-laden team had few players with pro experience, he presumably was injured.
