Biographical Information[edit]

Roldani Baldwin has played in the minors and for the Dominican national team.

He was signed by Boston Red Sox scouts Eddie Romero and Manny Nanita in November 2013. [1] He hit .269/.357/.384 for the 2014 DSL Red Sox. In 2015, he played for the GCL Red Sox (.288/.362/.397 in 47 G) and Lowell Spinners (2 for 7, 2B). The next year, he was with Lowell (.305/.358/.442 in 25 G) and the Greenville Drive (.249/.282/.342 in 61 G).

Baldwin spent all of 2017 in Greenville, producing at a .274/.310/.489 clip with 35 doubles. He fielded .993 and threw out 33% of those who tried to steal. He tied Michael Chavis and Jose Sermo for the most doubles by a Red Sox farmhand and was 7th in RBI (between Matt Dominguez and Rafael Devers). He was second in the South Atlantic League in two-baggers, one behind Jake Ring. He was named the SAL All-Star catcher. [2]

In 2018, he moved up to the Salem Red Sox; he caught 45% stealing but his offensive numbers fell (.233/.282/.371) and he split time with Nick Sciortino and Jordan Procyshen. He broke his right ankle in spring training in 2019 and missed almost the entire year, playing eight games on a rehab stint. His 2020 season was wiped out as well as the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the minor league season.

Roldani began 2021 with the Portland Sea Dogs, playing more third base than catcher. He then joined the Dominican Republic for the Final Olympic Qualifier. He backed up Charlie Valerio at catcher, getting into game. Starting against the Dutch national team and batting 8th, he struck out in the second against Tom de Blok and then flew out in the 5th. In the 7th, though, with a slim 1-0 lead, he came up big with a two-run double off Mike Groen that wound up being the key blow in a 4-3 win. His last time up, he drew a walk from Franklin Van Gurp. The Dominicans won a spot in the Tokyo Olympics. [3]
