team History[edit]

El Águila de Veracruz (formerly the Rojos del Águila de Veracruz,Veracruz Red Eagles, also known as the Veracruz Eagles) are named after the eagle that appears on the Mexican flag. They have been members of the Mexican League at various times throughout the league's history and have been members of the Liga more often than not. They won Mexican League pennants in 1952, 1961, 1970 and 2012. After leaving town following the 2017 season, they returned in 2021 under a variation of their traditional name, El Águila de Veracruz (the Veracruz Eagle), as an expansion team created at the same time as the Mariachis de Guadalajara.
