Biographical Information[edit]

Raúl Cano was a minor league pitcher who was later a manager for many years.

Cano debuted in 1967 with the Mexico City Red Devils, allowing 7 runs in 11 innings. He also played for Las Choapas Diablos Rojos of the Mexican Southeast League that year. In '68, the 22-year-old went 4-0 with a 1.54 ERA in 28 relief appearances, his best year. He pitched 30 games for the 1969 Red Devils but fell to 0-2, 3.52. He gave up 10 hits, 4 walks and 6 runs in 4 innings in 1970. Ending his playing career with the 1971 Red Devils, he had a 3-1, 4.50 record. Overall, he had gone 7-3 with a 3.62 ERA in 90 games (4 starts). He allowed 149 hits and 59 walks in 149 innings, while striking out 67.

After his playing career ended, Cano managed the Angeles de Puebla (part of 1973 and all of 1977-1978, going 181-119 the latter two years). He also led the Tomateros de Culiacán to the 1977-1978 Mexican Pacific League title and a spot in the 1978 Caribbean Series. In 1979, he took the Cardenales de Tabasco at a 73-58 record, but the team let him go part-way into 1980. His 1982 Plataneros de Tabasco went just 46-82. 20 years after his first LMP pennant, he managed the Venados de Mazatlán to the title in 1997-1998 and a trip to the 1998 Caribbean Series. He managed the Algodoneros de Torreon for part of 2000 and the Potros de Tijuana for part of 2005.

Through 2010, Cano was 924-923 in 14 seasons managing in the Mexican League. In September 2010, he became the GM of the Tabasco Olmecas.

He has also scouted for the Chicago Cubs, signing Marco Carrillo and Oswaldo Martinez.
