Biographical Information[edit]

Jorge Calvo was a minor league outfielder and manager.

Calvo debuted in 1960, playing for the Salamanca Petroleros (.304) and Artesia Giants (.269, .463 SLG in 19 games in his only time north of the border). In 1961, he won the Mexican Center League Triple Crown with the Guanajuato Tuzos (.368, 29 HR, 130 RBI). He spent 1962 with the Fresnillo Rojos, falling to .279 with four homers and 29 RBI.

By 1964, Calvo made it up to the Mexican League and hit .270/.330/.390 for the Mexico City Red Devils. He hit .269/.358/.407 for the same club in 1965 and was 2 for 8 for the 1966 Red Devils, then 4 for 13 with 2 walks in 1967. He also played for the Tabasco Plataneros in 1966 (.290) and the Las Choapas Diablos Rojos in 1967 (.333).

Jorge batted .343/.447/.529 in 33 games for the Saraperos de Saltillo in 1970 and went 3 for 13 with a double for Saltillo in 1971 to end his playing career. Overall, he hit .285/.367/.455 in 312 at-bats in the Mexican League. He later managed the Angeles de Puebla (part of 1973) and the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (replacing Moisés Camacho during 1983 and being replaced by Zacatillo Guerrero in 1986).
