Plymouth Oilers

The Plymouth Oilers were a semi-pro baseball team that was founded in 1949 by the Plymouth Oil Company. They played at Oiler Park in Sinton, TX.

The Oilers finished fourth at the 1950 National Semipro Tournament in Wichita, KS, their first appearance at the event. Pat Hubert of Texas A&M pitched a 6-0 no hitter vs the Worland Indians (WY) believed to be the first no hit shutout in tournament history.

The following year the Oilers, managed by Red Borom, won the NBC tournament beating the Atwater Packers (CA) 3-0 in the final and in turn becoming the first team from Texas to win the NBC title. In that 1951 tournament Mike Blyzka pitched the second no hit shutout in NBC history and Steve Repach was named tournament MVP.

In 1952 and 1954 the Oilers finished tied for 7th place at the national tournament and in 1955 they reached the final for the second time but lost 9-3 to the Boeing Bombers of Wichita. In 1956 they finished third then in 1957 the Oilers won their second national semipro championship beating Fort Wayne Allen Dairy 6-4 in the final.

After the 1958 season the Plymouth Oil Company, blaming economic conditions, ended it's support for the club and the Oilers disbanded.
