Pawtucket, RI
Pawtucket is located in northeastern Rhode Island, on the Blackstone River and the border of Massachusetts, north of Providence, RI and 5 miles southwest of Attleboro, MA.
Since the 1970s, the presence of the top farm team of the Boston Red Sox, which has drawn very well, has been one of the few bright spots in an economically depressed mill town that never fully recovered from the Great Depression. As a result, residents took very hard the news that the "PawSox" would likely be headed to nearby Providence in 2017. Those plans fell through because of difficulties related to the construction of a new ballpark, but the long-term future of baseball in Pawtucket remains problematic.
