Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Vinton was at Yale University in 1884 and then came to the 1884 Philadelphia Quakers of the 1884 National League. He pitched well with an ERA of 2.23, at age 19, for a team that played far under .500.

The next year he pitched less well for the Quakers and spent half the 1885 season with the 1885 Philadelphia Athletics of the American Association, for whom he pitched much better.

One source says that Vinton was a star baseball player at Andover Academy before coming to Yale, and that after his major league days he went back to Yale, graduating in 1888. Athletics for All

He died before he was 30. According to thedeadballera.com his cause of death was "cholera morbus."
