Biographical Information[edit]

Jim Duffy was an umpire in the American League from 1951 to 1953.

Duffy began umpiring in the New England League from 1946 to 1948. He moved up to the Eastern League in 1949 and the American Association in 1950. Duffy was drafted in the minor league draft by the American Association from the Eastern League at the 1949 minor league meeting, the first umpire to be drafted by a AAA league..

Duff was also an outstanding NBA referee. In the 1960 finals between the Boston Celtics and St. Louis Hawks, Duffy worked all 7 games. (King of the court: Bill Russell and the basketball revolution, By Aram Goudsouzian, page 31).
