Biographical Information[edit]
Osmari García has played for the Venezuelan women's national team.
García backed up Neydemar Guzmán in the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup, going 2 for 9 with a walk and handling 11 chances error-free; she allowed four steals in five tries. [1] In the 2015 Pan American Games, she had a 3-RBI game in a one-run win over Puerto Rico and finished at .286/.412/.357 with four RBI in five games, handling 15 chances error-free. She threw out 4 of 11 base-runners. She tied Astrid Rodríguez and Ingrid Escobar for the most RBI on the Bronze Medal winners. [2]
The 26-year-old had four RBI versus South Korea in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup and had half their four hits against MVP Ayami Sato of Japan. She then came up big in the Bronze Medal Game. With two outs, the bases loaded and a 3-2 deficit against Taiwan in the bottom of the final inning (the 7th as women's baseball went 7 innings rather than 9), she singled off Chiao-Yun Huang to score Maigleth Torres and Rodríguez with the tying and winning runs. She hit .348/.375/.348 for the Cup with 8 RBI in 8 games, throwing out 42.9% of runners and not making an error. She led the champs in RBI, two ahead of Ofelia Arrieche. For the Cup, she tied Chihiro Funakoshi and Ayako Rokkaku for 7th in RBI. Tahnee Lovering beat her out as the All-Star catcher. [3]
At the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, she prevented a no-hitter against Canada by singling off Amanda Asay. She hit .375/.524/.500 with one run and two RBI in seven games. She again made no errors, but caught 2 of 14 base-stealers, down from the prior two Cups. She was third on her team in OPS, after Migreily Ángulo and Esquia Rengel. [4]
