Biographical Information[edit]

Astrid Rodríguez has played regularly for the Venezuelan women's national team.

She was Venezuela's DH in the 2015 Pan American Games, going 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBI against Team USA in a 10-6 loss in the opener, the first women's baseball game ever in the Pan American Games. She later scored three against Puerto Rico to clinch a medal for Venezuela. Entering the Medal Games, she was 5th in the event in average (.462) and second in slugging (.692, .108 behind Nicole Luchanski). She finished at .375/.474/.563 with 7 runs, 3 doubles and 3 times hit by pitch in five games. She tied Malaika Underwood for the most runs, tied for second in doubles (one behind Luchanski) and tied for 7th in RBI. As women's baseball was not included in the 2019 Pan American Games, she remains the co-record holder for most runs by a female baseball player in the Pan American Games. [1]

In the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup, Rodríguez remained Venezuela's main DH, also playing one game at 2B and RF. She hit .364/.548/.409 with 10 runs, 7 walks and 5 steals (in 7 tries) in 10 games. She was 3-for-3 with 3 steals against Cuba, drove in three versus Pakistan and scored three against South Korea. She helped Venezuela win their first medal in a Women's Baseball World Cup. Down 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th and final inning, she was hit by a Yu-Chen Hsu pitch to load the bases, then came home on a hit by Osmari García with the winning run later in the inning. She tied Ingrid Escobar for third in the Cup in runs (behind Brittany Gomez and Underwood), tied Marije Filius for 4th in walks and led Venezuela in steals while pacing their regulars in OBP (.026 ahead of Ofelia Arrieche). She was not named the All-Star DH, an honor that went to Tamara Holmes. [2]

Rodríguez was Venezuela's DH in the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup (handling one assist at 2B). She was 1 for 11 with 7 times plunked, two runs, a RBI and 4 steals in 5 tries. She tied for 9th in steals and led in times hit by pitch. [3]
